The Fortune Theatre has a small wheelchair platform stair lift, the dimensions are listed below. Please email [email protected] for more information.
The Fortune theatre does NOT have a regular elevator style ground floor to higher floors lift.
There are no steps into the foyer and the Box Office is on the right. There are 21 steps down to the stalls. 7 steps up to the Dress Circle and 40 steps up to the Upper Circle. All stairwells have handrails. The auditorium is open 30 mins before the performance.
Wheelchair transfers – there are 7 steps up to the back of the Dress Circle. Dress F6-7 are the easiest seats to transfer to being level with the back of the auditorium.
Non-Transfer patrons – Dress F16-17 can be removed to accommodate patrons who cannot transfer. A wheelchair lift is accessible by the side fire exit. When customers arrive they will be assisted by a front of house member who will guide them around to the side entrance and the lift. The wheelchair lift can only accommodate standard size wheelchairs W 70cm x L 80cm with a total weight (including patron) of less than 200kg. (35 stone) If a patron’s wheelchair is close to the dimensions of the lift (W70xL80cm), the wheelchair handles must be lower than 95cm tall or removable/adjustable to clear the lift’s arm bars. Maximum height for wheelchair users whilst sitting down is 150cm. The wheelchair lift cannot be used for mobility scooters or larger electric wheelchairs. This lift is also available for patrons who wish to transfer to a seat but cannot manage the 7 steps up to the dress circle.
Box A and Box B are not wheelchair accessible. Box A is accessible to wheelchair user patrons who can transfer, unaided to an armchair via a slim doorway and 5 stairs.
Wheelchairs and scooters will be stored in a safe place.
There are accessible ladies toilets on all levels and gents in the stalls and upper level. The toilet next to Box A is an access toilet and can be accessed via the side fire exit.
